What are the judges looking for?
First, we must tell you that this award is about the people and the way they run their business.
The judges are looking for individuals or couples who make the best of the resources they have available – they could be running a food-led pub, high street bar, a village local, or a community pub. The type of venue isn’t important, but what is important is that:
-
· Entrants demonstrate great business ability
-
·They are committed to staff development
-
· They are passionate about the business and can speak knowledgably about industry affairs
-
· They would be a great ambassador for BII and professionalism in licensed retail
THE JUDGING PROCESS
This award is open to all UK licensees whether they are freeholders, tenants/lessees or managers. Entrants have to have been at the business for two full financial years. Entrants do not have to be members of BII.
Stage one
Entrants complete the True/False questions. Why not involve your team in helping you complete this?
Stage two
The entry forms will be marked and those with the highest score will be invited to enter the next stage of the competition, which entails answering three short questions. These will give the judges an overview of your management style, what motivates you, what business development ideas you’ve put into place and your knowledge on current issues affecting the trade.
Stage three
The second stage entry forms are judged and 16 semi-finalists are selected, then visited by at their outlet and interviewed by two independent judges. This gives semi-finalists the opportunity to talk about the way they run their business within the comfort of their own premises.
Stage four
Six finalists are selected and are invited to a judging day and lunch in London in April 2010. There finalists are interviewed by a panel of judges.
CLOSING DATE IS MONDAY 15 FEBRUARY
